March 3rd 2012 - HOBs Roar, Harwell Score!

It was a perfect day in the rolling countryside around Harwell. The sun bright, the sky clear, a nip in the air and a pint in hand. With both teams playing at home, hopes of around 30 HOBs turning out appeared to be well founded as the car park filled and mountains of relaxed muscle spilled from their carriages.

The beer had arrived, the food was on its way and so, on to the rather swish new changing rooms and pavilion where, just to make us feel at home, who should be waiting for us but Captain Cock-Up. Ah, double booked by the archery club, arrows pointing and quivers quivering. Realising that pointy sticks are no match for thirty hungry and thirsty HOBs, the archers graciously drew back.

There followed much merriment and backslapping as HOBs reacquainted themselves with old team mates. Kev ran a wonderful bar, Dick served us a hearty meal and we all relaxed for team photo's before talking some more, drinking some more before finally sauntering over to watch the current cream of the crop from the sidelines of the 1st and 2nd team pitches.

Wheatley 1st team were no match for a Harwell side unbeaten this season and urged ever onwards by the season's best crowd to break the 50 point mark with consummate ease. The 2nd team performed equally well, notching up another good victory.

And so, back to the British Legion for, you guessed it, more beer, more talk and much enthusiasm for our next meet!

Thanks to Kev, Dick and the rest of the club for making us feel so welcome. Great to see you all and I hope it won't be long before we meet again!
